Tissue Engineering I. Overview: These slides provide an overview of tissue engineering.
Tissue Engineering II. Scaffolds: The roles and properties of scaffolds for tissue engineering are summarized in this slide presentation. A variety of syntheic and natural polymers are being employed for the fabrication of scaffolds.
Tissue Engineering III. Growth Factors and Genes: Selected cytokines may be of value to affect certain cell functions associated with tissue engineering. As an alternative the genes encoding the growth factors may be delivered by scaffolds.
Tissue Engineering IV. Stem Cells: Stem cells are of value for tissue engineering because they can be grown in vitro through many passages and still retain the capability to differentiate into a wide arrray of specialized cell types.

Biomaterials Survey: The composition and properties of selected biomaterials employed for the fabrication of permanent prostheses are summarized.
Implant Fixation, Mechanical Stability, and Modulus Matching: The fit of an implant in its recipient site, the mode of fixation, and the mechanical stiffness of the device influence its stability (i.e., the degree to which it undergoes movement relative to surrounding tissue) and the degree to which it alters the mechanical strains in surrounding tissue.
